I'm into computers a lot, spend most of my time on them, but, honestly, I haven't tried this.  In fact, I know little about computer repair - though, I did study for the repair-person test once.  Well, it gave me a good grounding on terminology.  You ask me stuff like, "What's DDR?" and I won't answer East Germany, lol.

Anyhow, how would you compare built systems to what you buy in the store?  Also, how challenging was it the work?  How expensive was it?  Where did you get the parts?

Computers you find in stores are often overpaid mos times you are going to pay 100 - 200$/€ only for plugging some cables in and installing some stuff.
There are many tutorials on youtube where you learn very fast to build a computer.
But i still prefer just trying it out but i still recommend, learning by doing, my first computer took about 5 hours but its very rewarding when you finally got it working.
I paid about 500$ for my all the parts.
I bought the parts on the internet on a website for pc stuff, i bought it there because they often get lower prices by the manufacturers, do never buy pc parts on amazon or some non pc tech website, they often have the highest prices.

I built my recent computer myself and at first, I honestly thought it would be one of the more daunting things I've done but I spend a couple days religiously watching tutorials on how to do it and do it properly. Once I got over that hump, I hopped onto PCPartPicker to ensure all my components would work together and that and from there, I opened up my wallet and went to town. The actual process of putting it together was quite possibly one of the more easier things I've done, just involved a bit of screwing stuff in and patience. Plus it was a lot cheaper and more satisfying than purchasing it from a store or something so bonus!

I build my computer alone. It was very easy. I watch 4-5 youtube videos how to do it and what I need. Knowing what part goes where is important but most of the time it is hard to make a mistake. Go to some local computer parts store and ask them what goes with what and they will sell you parts that you need.

Building your own computer is actually much easier than you'd think. Now days there are tutorial for almost everything on the internet. It's cheaper than pre built, and by building it yourself it makes upgrading easier cause you know what you have and when you put it there.
