Online education is getting to be in fashion although it mainly caters to vocational learnings. And although there are academic learnings but not exactly a degree. Maybe in the near future, the online university will be a reality where the students attend classes using the internet and their physical presence is not needed anymore since there are no more classrooms. For now, most certification courses in IT can be availed of via online education.

I have come across online degrees getting less worth than that obtained through attending the course physically. Although there are some renowned colleges for online courses too. In fields which need a practical approach online courses may not have much value.

I tried learning Spanish online. It was a complete disaster. I am not so much into this, but I agree it spares space and time a lot.

Well depending on where you are located, some universities do recognize the value of some IT online courses, I think that this is true for places like Coursera and Udacity. In the case of online language courses, you can always learn as much as you can and then try to take a certification exam that will validate your knowledge of the language.

Online education is gradually becoming more attractive these days. I am one of those that have leveraged on online education to badge a diploma in Communications even though I already had a degree in the Sciences. Lessons where taken in the comfort of my home and at my free times. That said not all courses can successfully be done online. Engineering and Sciences for example are not programs that can be handled online. These require regular learning with loads of practical exposures.
