To be clear, I just want opinions from people about this. I realize that professional movie critics are an important part of the mass media and that the tastes of a few are acclaimed. So, I'm just trying to get some discussion moving with this question.

It comes from the fact that we have so many other methods and platforms to get our opinions from. We have IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, among other similar sites that combine an average of thousands of people to get a pretty decent and accurate rating to how good a movie is in general. This doesn't include things like personal tastes and what-not, so it's not foolproof, but I think it's better to use than one man or woman's paid opinion. Additionally, with the introduction of YouTube into modern and mass popularity, amateur critics have been popping up constantly. It's quite easy to find a YouTube creator with the same interests and tastes as you and count on their opinion.

So why do professional critics still exist?

Of course, it's completely possible to call some YouTubers professionals, but I'm more-so referring to those that appear on TV, in journals, newspapers, etc. Critically acclaimed individuals.

Not everyone is on the internet.

People make decisions based on ratings or opinions from wherever they come from.

Criticism comes from opinion. I don't think there is such thing as professionals / An opinion is nothing sure. Critics might think a movie sucks while others think it's awesome.
