I run Linux on my Cr-48. ChromeOS counts. :p
But I did have Ubuntu 10.10 working on it. It was really challenging to get it on their, as I had to do a lot of time in a terminal-only environment.
I run Windows on my main because I game, and I haven't found a good video editing program in Linux. Plus drivers for my GPU (6850) are non-existent.

Using a medium will almost always result in a performance loss. I'm not sure how wine works, but I can say for sure it results in an impact on performance. (Dual booted windows and ubuntu on my old laptop)

It's a compatibility layer for the Windows API.
And I will stay away from Wine because, quite frankly, it sucks.

How come you quoted that? o.O

On Topic: I just uninstalled Kubuntu 10.10, but a friend of mine is making his own 11.04 based distro, and it's currently called WORKING TITLE. lol. It's Ubuntu based, and will have the option of installing Gnome, KDE, XDFE, or another desktop environment from the installer. It will also ship with various overclocking tools/software, as well as things such as Wine for gaming. I'm pretty excited to test it out.

I know this is dead, sorry for the grave digging, but I'm fascinated by linux.

what distribution would you suggest to someone who'd like the be extremely hands on with the command prompt. I don't care so much for the GUI
