This is a complex issue because being transgender is quite new and the rules of the game are still not adapted to this physical changes brought by medical science.
In the olden days, there was this professional tennis player named Richard Raskind who, I think, was in the top 20 rankings. And when he had surgery to make him a woman, she assumed the name Renee Richards and tried to play in the women’s league. It was a big question at the time since everyone know who she really is. When the 1976 US Open disallowed her to play in the women’s division, Richards went to court and on the following year, she was able to play against the top ranked women.
