I've been getting more into weight lifting the past year. I started with minor lifting and heavy cardio to lose weight since I was 280lbs at the time. Now I am more weight training base with some cardio. I tend to go 6 days a week, so it's pretty much in my routine.
I can say first-hand that exercise and physical activity can keep you physically, and mentally, healthy. It has been proven that physical activity and exercise can cause people to feel more happy and energetic once they make working out a common routine in their lives.
