Well basically gold is self explanatory it's a metal that if hit by a hammer won't shatter, it is a great conductor like Zokrin said that's why very sophisticated wiring is made up of a portion of gold coil. As for the price it depends on its price. During the gold rush in California it was a good price and the gold was peoples wages. Take a look at diamonds, why are they so expensive? It's simple because they are so hard to get. Miners you might not here that term as much anymore but it's basically a job in other countries. That's what feeds their families, clothes their families. So it all comes out that gold is money.
