The reason that accident rates and such are lower at higher ages is because of driving experience. Driving experience = less accidents. Raising the driving age will just move the statistic up the ladder.
I think the driving age as it is is fine (In my state: 14 for Farm License, 15 for Driving Permit, 16 for Intermediate License, 18 for Full license). At 16 you are able to work, and may teenagers are getting jobs , so they must have a way to travel to and from work. Some are involved in outside of school classes and need to be able to drive to different locations, so the reasoning for them to be able to drive is there.
