I've always wanted to hear other people's opinions on this. The "insanity plea" is growing more and more popular for people who are so desperate to get out of what they had done. Yes, someone might actually have a mental disorder which distorts their sense of reality, their sense of right and wrong, but typically, like you said, the person would have "snapped" earlier in their life, due to the mental disorder. Why would it just randomly occur now?

Being diagnosed with a mental disorder is a serious thing. It should be taken seriously, and not just thrown around as some form of reason not to face the consequences of your actions.
