Yes and No. Yes because being married doesn't release any restriction. Roommate can adopt a child as easily as a married couple. I could go into other situation at nauseum , but since its your stance I think you get the point.
No because a Gay person who's recognizes marriage as the connection of two souls who want to be together forever, will always be missing that special connection with the one of his dreams.
It all depends on their stand point. If they're spiritual, if their not, or if it's the concept that makes them want to fight against it.
