Our youngest daughter discovered that one of the locked drawers of her three-division plastic cabinet was broken. She asked her three nieces and one nephew if they did it or anyone of them had accidentally destroyed it. Everybody became deaf. Nobody answered.

I interrupted and relayed that one day I noticed Bryan, the oldest among our 4 grandchildren was practicing Karate inside the room where the cabinet was located. So I guessed that he accidentally hit the drawer by his karate kick. I insisted that Bryan was the culprit.

Our daughter right away confronted Bryan and let him admit the misdeed with a condition that he wouldn't be scolded or be held accountable. With a teary eyes, Bryan admitted the guilt.

"Why did you lie?" our daughter concluded her interrogation.

There are people who like Bryan. They are afraid or apprehensive to tell the truth. Are you that kind of person too?

People, whether a kid or an adult, lie for various reasons. One of the reasons for lying is for eschew any kind of penalty. Bryan lied to avoid any kind of punishment. Lying can also be a clinical condition. When people lie too much without any valid reasons it is a clinical condition.

Children are prone to white lies. White lies are the lies that do not create any consequences. Intention of telling while lies is to be tactful or polite. White lies are unimportant lies. If you tell your kid that you will take him to zoo this Sunday and do not take him to zoo than this is white lies.

Sometimes lies are the only thing that can save from a difficult situation, but it's important not to keep on telling lies, in the long run.

I would tell a lie if telling the lie is the best choice. For example, I would tell a lie if the truth would hurt someone's feelings, not matter much but benefits me or someone else more than telling the truth or to not be in trouble with a higher authority if I see it works.

I must be straight forward and accept that I have done this couple of times but I will tell you just one of them for now. I went to see a dealer in a nearby town a few years before but the market was closed so he was at his residence. Later he invited me to cabaret joint and I came home late. I did not tell my wife about that incident. Incidentally, that was my only chance I happened to be in such a place.
