I again switched to a new player. Even after installing the proper codecs some mkv videos were not properly rendering in my VLC player. The issue is, for a small duration ( normally 5 seconds), the video becomes pixelated. Initially, I thought it was the issue with the video, but when I played those videos using a different player (the one that comes default with k-lite codec pack), the video played perfectly. So I switched to this new player- Media player classic( default k-lite codec pack player)

I had similar problems with VLC and I was not sure what the problem was so I just downloaded a new, updated version altogether and now it plays mkv files with no problem. Maybe the older versions don't have the ability to play such files. You can also consider using other video players which support mkv files.

Try to update first the player, maybe some features aren't available in your version. But if it doesn't work, try to troubleshoot it, preferably online. You can also download other video players which can support mkv files.

If you VLC player doesn't work, better uninstall it and install a new one. It is probably not updated. You know video player of any platform should also be upgraded and it could be availed its update from the web. Check always an upgrade of your VLC.
