What do you think of Teachers Unions? Are they needed? Are you for or against them?

Let me start off by saying, I fail to see how Unions are needed for Teachers. Being a teacher can be tough but they are paid well enough and gain heaps of benefits. Unions were created to protect those exploited, however the teachers are not exploited. An example of workers being exploited is the workers in the tailoring factories in Bangladesh, or the workers building the football stadiums in SA. Teachers are not being exploited and yet they join Unions. What they are doing is following self interest, which is very reasonable, that's what capitalism is all about. The fact that they are not being exploited and joining Unions, for benefits means someone else is losing out. Who is losing out? The taxpayers, we are paying teachers extra money for no good reason at all and also giving them immunity. Once a teacher is a part of a Teachers Union they can make it incredibly difficult to get them fired. And in this way Unions strangle taxpayers. Teachers Unions are being used for extortion. They work in similar to a Mafia but have the good guys guise of being a teacher.

Teachers have it well-off, they don't need Unions. The money Unions take could be giving to something more worthy. Education doesn't need to cost a lot, books are cheap and anyone can pick one up at a local library.

Also people seem to think by throwing more money into the education system will make education better, they apply this to teachers and say by paying them more they will teach better. That's rubbish, good teachers are driven by the incentive to teach, not the incentive for money. The rubbish teachers are driven by money only.

I believe every teacher should have to pass a teaching exam, proving that they actually can teach as well as speak the native language. With rubbish teachers school can hold you back and not just you, the 20 other people in the class. They can drain you and discourage you from learning if the teacher shows a disinterest in which the subject he/she is suppose to be teaching. In my opinion teaching should be held for the intelligent members of our race, right now it seems to be just another job "just to get by". And they get by very well with their Unions.
This is not so much a problem, but in America I see it is. However it suits your capitalistic ideals, making education cost a load and giving out loans to everyone so they are then future debt slaves. Makes a lot of sense in a capitalist society like America. I just hope other countries don't copy this.

I leave this thread with a short video with Thomas Sowell for you all to watch.
