What do you guys think? This is my first time using photoshop at the aswell so it took me an hour to do this (I have to find out what does what while I was making this gif).

Any tips on how to improve would be nice and I would also like more tuts for beginners so I can get used to make different things.

Not bad for a first time.
I recommend getting rid of the white outline on the basketball.

Background wont do anything.

OP, you can try using the video timeline instead of the frame animation, and convert the basketball to a smart object, and transform over frames.

Look up "how to animate a transformation" on youtube and you will find tutorials on how to do this.

Not bad.
However, I feel that it could use more frames.

I copied a youtube video to my best of my ability and this came out. This one to be exact (Click Here). I think mine came out differently for some reason.
