:( I was watching the news about something that happened at the Cincinnati zoo and I feel conflicted. A little boy accidentally fell inside the gorilla cage. We know the gorillas are endangered and their numbers are dwindling but the keepers of the zoo decided to shoot the gorilla in  fears that he will kill the boy.  Don't they have any tranquilizers?

When Gorilla's get hit with a tranquillizer they tend to 'bug out' before it effects them. Tranquillisers are also not instant. So in theory, you have a Gorilla which is 'bugging out' and a child right next to him. You may be able to guess the rest. It's unfortunate, but it had to be done.

I learnt the gorilla did not inflinct any injury on the boy. Some sources said the gorilla was having fun with the boy, as in they played together. I am shocked the gorilla was killed one would have expected the security at the zoo to use a taser on the animal instead.

Honestly I don't understand why the Gorilla was shot & killed! He was not harming anyone nor was causing any damage.

There has been an amazing amount of news related to this incident, and from what I've heard, they didn't have a choice because a tranquilizer takes a while until it start to have effects on the animal and until then it could hurt the person. Hopefully this incident will serve as a lesson so they can review their security measures to avoid future incidents like this one.

I agree with a person above, tranquilizers' effect is not instant so it may do more harm instead of good. For me, the life of the kid is more important. The parents must be liable though, since they let their child wander on the zoo.

This exactly, I've heard so many go "use tranquillizers!!" and I have to explain to them the effects. Unfortunately, it was realistically the only option.
