There are many zoonotic diseases that can cross transmit to humans like psitacossis (Okay! I know that's Greek to you) an infection from birds like parrots, rabies and cat scratch disease to name a few.
Do you screen your pets and vaccinate them as per the vet schedule?

Well, I think any responsible pet owner should immunise their pet or at least check for ticks. Last thing you want is getting a disease from your dog or have your dog die because you were a careless owner.
Some of the more dangerous diseases though, like Toxo which causes deformities to the embryo if a pregnant lady is infected via pets, is much harder to detect and you need to draw blood to run those tests. Other things like Leismania infections can be prevented by both vaccination as well as keeping away from marshes during summer.
I think the worst thing is fillariosis, which might not be easily contractible to humans but it kills dogs really quick. It' what we call a heart worm and it kills mostly puppies. Imagine getting a puppy and have it die a week later because it was never vaccinated or treated for fillaria.

Pets are very helpful for mental wellbeing, however, for physical wellbeing pets pose a great risk. Since a a pet owner we mix up with our pets, we can catch many disease, the most common are parasites.

To guard against being infected by the pets we keep it's very important we carry out aroutine veterinary check for every pet in our neighborhood. It's not a good idea to take pets to the vet after they have shown obvious signs of illness. Prevention is better than cure and indirectly we are helping ourselves too.

This is the reason why we should get our pets vaccinated and maintain sanitation in their cages/houses. I mean we love our pets but we can't afford to risk our health caring for them.
