4 Years of Service
I've known some people that can make them last years and years but there are others that can lay waste to them in one year. Is there a certain time span that a CD is certain to stop working? How long do they last you?

In the early 90s when the first CD disc was introduced, manufacturers said that the media stored had a data life of about 40 years. In the late 90s when the first DVD discs appeared on the scene, producers claimed a data life of at least 100 years. Throughout that time and even today the press will "discover" that the media is susceptible to CD or DVD rot that will eat your information - audio, video or data - in as little as two years after it is written. CD/DVD rot is a phrase describing the tendency of CD or DVD or other optical discs to become unreadable due to physical or chemical deterioration.
