I don't use a CD ROM anymore. I use USB drive, which is not only easy to use but also very reliable. Years ago, when I was using a CD ROM, I always had difficulty in burning the disk. During the learning process, I have damaged a lot of CD ROM.

I don't use it anymore and frankly I believe that CD/DVD are already phased out. It's much more reliable to use USB and even more reliable to use Cloud storage services rather than save something on a large object called disc that has only 4.7 GB of free storage.

I use a DVD/CD drive but only to make periodical backups of important information. The rest of the time I only use my USB to transfer files, or I use Google Drive just in case there's a problem with the stored data. I have considered getting a portable USB but they are too expensive and they don't fit on my pocket.

Sometimes for installing some software or formatting my pc, I have to use it as there is no other option. But for other purpose of storing files and backing up, I mostly use pendrives only.

I believe you know that you can install software and format your PC with a USB flash drive, right?
