Well, how would you think it would feel to never get married and live your whole life as a virgin?

I mean, like with the insanity that's going on in the world nowadays with the spouses killing their husbands and such in the news, I'm really considering this life.

I mean, only monks in Tibet do these types of things, but I don't really care much.

I wouldn't mind being a lonely game designer, living in a apartment with basic cable, along with having a good paying job involving computers.

Doesn't sound like a bad life to me.

This is a serious debate and a rough moral decision, so humor would be highly innappropriate in this situation.

I would have to agree with forte...As long as I could see some friends from time to time, I'd be okay. But if I couldn't see anybody.... I would either go crazy or kill myself....or both  :(

I know there are days on end where I want to see absolutely nobody (even talking to the pizza delivery guy is a challenge), but I don't think I could live like that unless someone that I wanted to be with jaded me in some way.  It would take a serious change of my personality to put me there.  The more time I spend alone, the more depressed I get.

For some reason this reminds me of "2001, a space oddysey"...
I mean, if left to my own machinations, I would most likely start talking to myself, and probably go insane. Though I would much prefer that to a homicidal A.I. hellbent on going to Saturn. The next time they remake that movie, they should have HAL go "are we there yet".

I can understand the argument for this sort of thing.  And some of the greatest authors and philosophers have gone into seclusion.  So, I'm not against the idea.  I am against this practice for the rest of your life.  Being alone helps you understand the world and yourself better, but people can offer a lot of things.  Bad AND good.

Most of the authors and philosophers 'did' stay in seclusion for the rest of their life, are you with 'and' against it at the same time?

I wouldn't be able to live without a mate for the rest of my life. Noway, No. Never.

I think it would be very hard..

But as long as you go down and see people, it would pass normally...
