I heard this theory somewhere (i think on JRE) and he said that humans were made to mine gold. That some ancient alien came to Earth and created us to mine gold for their own planet because gold is needed for the aliens. I actually found this very interesting. Why do we mine gold? Gold really has no value to us besides the fact that it can be used as a good conductor. We can't use it for armor or anything that iron can be used for, so why do we go to such great lengths to mine it, even risk our lives for it. Also, Scientists have discovered mining operations going back as far as 100,000 BC in Africa, South and Central America.
I don't believe the alien part of this but it is extremely weird that we risk our lives to mine "gold" when it has no value.
(Correct me if i'm wrong)
It does have value and that's where you're wrong. If it had not value, the gold rush and many mining operations wouldn't of happened. It's value is weighted by the government then by the people themselves. For most, it's a pretty mine rock to them and they will value it on how much they want it.

Well basically gold is self explanatory it's a metal that if hit by a hammer won't shatter, it is a great conductor like Zokrin said that's why very sophisticated wiring is made up of a portion of gold coil. As for the price it depends on its price. During the gold rush in California it was a good price and the gold was peoples wages. Take a look at diamonds, why are they so expensive? It's simple because they are so hard to get. Miners you might not here that term as much anymore but it's basically a job in other countries. That's what feeds their families, clothes their families. So it all comes out that gold is money.
