I have heard that there is relation between them. I mean if we don't use seat belt during driving then air bag will not open even during accident. Is it true? Is it compulsory to have seat belt if we want to activate the usage of Airbag. Or it can be done without it too.

Seat belt is import, but I am just asking for my general knowledge.

I don't really know, but maybe they're connected. The two are really important for car safety so it must be that they're connected in order to enforce the idage of seatbelt.

Yes they are connected and important for safety too. But I am still not sure if it is necessary to keep the belt if we want to use airbag too. I mean airbag will not open at all if we have not used seat belt. That's what I have heard.

Maybe if a system in the car feels a hard enough tug on the seat belt, the airbag will deploy. Maybe you must click the seat belt for the car to ''know'' that there is a passenger on board.

But I am still confuse Mike.

I mean is it necessary to have seat belt if we want to use air bag too. Or Airbag will deploy even if we haven't use seat belts during accident.

I'm pretty sure a car has a mechanism in which the airbag deploys if it feels a sudden strong fender bender or worse. And yes, even if not wearing a seat belt. Maybe the only connection is when the car feels a strong tug on the seat belt. Every car is different.

Hmm.. then I guess I am having wrong information. Actually I tried to search about the same on internet too, but I have got multiple answers for it. So it makes me even more confused. Some of were even saying that, airbag without seat belt can even harm you. I don't know how, but it is new thing to me.

It may cause sudden head tilts and suffocation if in the wrong situations but that is situational. Anything can be deadly if in certain situations. A seat belt may soften the impact since it's holding you on to the seat and away from the airbag deployment. This is just speculation and situational. If you're worried about your own car model, maybe you can contact the manufacturer to ask about it and get a definite answer.

Nope I am not worried about my car. But actually I was having this discussion with one of my cousin. But we both were confused about it. So I thought to ask here. And I got good information from it too. Thanks to you all.

False, if a driver has a accident and there is no passenger you will always see the driver & passenger airbags going off. This is due to safety features.
