Although my wife is taking an herbal beverage for her kidney stones, I am wary of the herbal food supplements in the stores that claim to prevent diseases. And if you will make a list of what those stores are selling - prevention of cancer, leukemia, hypertension, etc - all diseases are covered. So if I take all those supplements every day, will I be free of any disease? That's funny, isn't it?

Do you believe in herbal supplements even if the label says "no approved therapeutic claims?"

You are right; most of these are just money making organizations. But actually herbal supplements are effective but take a longer time for visible effects. The best part is that it doesn’t have any dangerous side effects as modern medicine has. In our country there was an herbal supplement which claimed to be a remedy for chronic Asthma. It became very famous as kids and grownups started showing visible improvements within weeks of its use. But then it has been found that the manufacturers used to add some kind of steroids in that herbal supplement and it was not actually curing the disease.

Ayurveda which is based on pure herbal medication is very popular in our country. But it is now a selfish business for many and there are many popular brands to cheat people with the help of modern media.

Herbal medicine will always be a big no in my family, and I would stop my friends from following this kind of treatments if possible. This kind of stuff lead to many deaths due to people ignoring proper medical advice and medicine in favour of something that should be considered a scam that is only based on anecdotal evident without any kind of scientific validation behind it. If you want to take this but also follow the medical advice, go ahead, but don't use it as a replacement of real medicine. See the Steve Jobs case for reference.

Herbal medicines a scam? Oh please how about explain the cancer patients who got cured by diet and herbal medicines compared to those who died while suffering from their Chemotherapy.

The Pharmaceutical companies are as greedy or maybe even greedier than the alternate medicine practitioner.
