Who here is rocking a home server setup?
Be it for labbing for work, research, study, gold farming, hosting a RIOT or media server or anything at all.
If you haven't got anything setup, but you're curious - just ask here!
Maybe share some images of your setup, or a description of what you've got and what you do.
A rough outline of mine.
x2 Dell r610 (ESXi clustered lab)
x1 Dell r710 (Production/Games/Media server)
A couple of old enterprise switches, one PoE for a couple of spread out PoE WAPs.
A KVM switch with console
A big ol' black steel IBM 24RU cabinet to house all of my power hungry toys.
Still hunting for a UPS that won't kill my savings while not risking a house fire.
Peace

In your personal experience, What are the advantages you get via self-hosting apart from privacy and full control? What is your monthly cost for your setup? Planning whether to self-host or use a 3rd party. Do let me know.
Thank you.
Thank you.

This is something I have thought about doing as well. I would just like to know, how much power do you use on a monthly basis. Since it is going to host websites; it would need to be on 24/7. Wouldn't that cost a fortune?

Hey mate, the monthly cost for power is around $40-$43, i don't really count internet usage as a cost as I'd have that anyway. Essentially, running Plex and downloading media we want to watch is cheaper than paying for streaming services, in addition to this i can host my own cloud services, game servers or whatever i want.
It works out roughly the same in total expenditure, but i pay for the convenience and having control over my data.
The only possible extra cost could be replacement of parts, but even older enterprise stuff is pretty long lasting, and quite cheap on eBay etc.
Self hosting is also a good fun learning exercise too, not to mention it sounds good in a job interview if you work in the industry.

The single server i have online 24/7 costs the amount mentioned above.
My lab environment isn't on for more than a few hours a day on days that i get time to use it for study or i need to spin something up to lab with.
